Welcome to the Saudi Ophthalmology 2023 (SO2023) Meeting. SO2023 is a joint meeting of the 40th Annual Symposium of the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH) and the 35th Scientific Meeting of the Saudi Ophthalmological Society (SOS), held in collaboration with King Saud University (KSU). KKESH has played a major role in organizing international ophthalmic meetings in Saudi Arabia since its first symposium in 1982.
The organization of this conference is part of a larger positive trend in the development of health standards and services in our region. In this context, the Kingdom has become a distinguished model for the provision of ophthalmological care, particularly in terms of preventing blindness, thanks to the leadership and support of King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital. The long history of excellence in teaching, training, and research at KKESH has raised the standard of ophthalmic services available to patients in the kingdom and across the region.
As KKESH moves towards the implementation of our country’s Vision 2030, we will continue to play a major role in the development of eye care at a national level and to serve as a positive regional influence. Thanks to the exemplary devotion and hard work of our team members, KKESH will remain a home for ophthalmologists in Saudi Arabia and beyond, making our expertise and services accessible to all.
Through lectures, courses, poster sessions, and video presentations, SO2023 will focus on recent advances in the areas of Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Oculoplastics, Artificial Intelligence, Vitreoretinal, Optometry, and Uveitis.
Finally, as our role in SO2023 was to arrange an up-to-date scientific program with our colleagues from SOS and KSU, we are grateful to our international and local speakers for sharing their clinical experiences and research. We extend our appreciation to the numerous individuals who worked behind the scenes to ensure the success of this meeting.

It is my honor and pleasure to welcome you all to Saudi Ophthalmology 2023 (SO2023), a combined meeting of the 35th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Saudi Ophthalmological Society (SOS) and the 40th Annual Symposium of the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH) in collaboration with the Department of Ophthalmology, College of Medicine, King Saud University (KSU).

This combined annual scientific meeting is an educational activity that will provide the delegates with a greater platform to discuss ophthalmic issues concerning advanced techniques, modern treatment methods, and better vision to raise the scientific standards of ophthalmology personnel as well as the quality of eye care services provided to our patients.

Since the establishment of SOS on 16th September 1985, as one of the first Saudi Scientific Medical Societies and the only ophthalmological to be formed, ophthalmologists in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries have greatly benefited. Under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the Honorary President of SOS, HRH Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Society continues to strive to achieve its future goals. We continue to unite our efforts and goals to provide the strongest and most comprehensive meeting in the region in order to better serve ophthalmologists and optometrists.
